pretty useful for choke explanation really
its your control on the pattern size if you have a gun with changeable chokes
12 guage is a good start for a beginer, like myself, does everything you ask it to do is nice and heavy in the hands so is nice and steady yet can be a bit heavy when your walking about a lot
lanbers and lincolns are good guns to get hold of second hand second hand they are half what they are new and good second hand guns dont even have a scratch on them
hope thats of use -

I got a Lincoln Premier Game 12 bore over and under, 1/2 and 3/4 choke.
I'd reccomend either 12 or 20 bore for a beginner. 12 is best in my opinion though. -

Choke is just the restriction on the end of the barrel to either constrict the shot or open it up depends on the range your shooting.
Good starters are either .410 bore 20 or 12 ga 410 is more for kids.. or experts. 20 gauge dosnt have as much kick or shot as the 12 gauge but the 12 gauge is the best in my oppion. -

Well at 20 meters if you shoot a rabbit with a 12 gauge and your chokes are 3/4 and full its going to have quiet a few pellets in it. but 40 meters is probably max range before the patteren spreads out to far for a realible hit.
I don't really know about the other cartridges madmat has a 410 bore. I don't know if anyone on here has a 20ga.
But in the end i think the 12 gauge is the most versatile. -

Most gun come with chokes set on 3/4 and full so you cant change them.
But you can also get one that you can change he choke.
Never shoot a gun that has changable chokes without a choke in it either use cylinder bore choke or improved cylinder. -
