    Afternoon ladies and gentlemen!

I'm new to the forum and I have some problems with my dad's Patriot 3070 laptop.

When the AC is connected, the AC light comes on as you would expect, but pressing the power button causes this to go out and the laptop will not start. I have tried running it on battery only and without battery in on AC only, and it just will not switch on, seems to be completely dead! It hasn't been dropped and it was working fine a week ago, the battery was fully charged too on last successful use. The warranty has run out, so I want to try and avoid sending it to a tech if possible.

Motherboard problem perhaps? However I don't seem to be getting the burning plastic smell associated with burnt-out boards.
