Cameras for shooting inside nightclubs

Hi

I take photos inside nightclubs for websites, both close-up photos of people as well as shots of crowds from the stage etc.

My present camera is not very good at low light, and when I use the flash, people's faces look too bright and washed out, and from the photos there is no sense of the atmosphere of the club.

So what I am looking for is a compact digital camera (preferably which would fit into a pocket), which operates well under low light. An optical zoom and video mode would be useful but not essential. My budget is upto £300.

Please can somebody make some recommendations?
