ok the question you asked depends on a few things firstly how old are you and how stronge are you and what you intend to use the gun for, although the lighning xl is small and not to heavy for a springer it recoils a bit , so lots of practice is needed for you to get used to it, my advice is to go for a precharge air rifle such as the hornet or ultra from bsa or an air arms s200 which is an excellent beginners gun.

hope this helps you out, any questions email on mark_grice35@hotmail.com and il try to help you out

My 13yr old son uses this lovely rifle with no problems at all. I would say its a great rifle for young and old alike, trust me you cant go wrong with it. Very Happy

I agree with Hawk. The Lightning XL is a great break-barrel rifle. The spring recoil means that you have to work harder to be accurate but this is no bad thing. If I lend it to a friend of mine who normally shoots a pre-charged rifle, he really struggles to get the same results that I do!
The only negatives are a slightly rough trigger action and a tendency for the barrel pivot pin to creep out over time. The pin was fixed under warranty and I can have the trigger action looked at if it ever annoys me.
    Well worth the money!

Well, the Lightning XL is going to be cheaper to start off with! If you buy a pre-charged pneumatic you're going to need an air bottle as well, which is going to push the price up. A PCP is easier to shoot but more expensive to buy.
