I would love to get a second dog but i am unsure what type to get. You see my dog is a lovely ,very well behaved 4yr old boy. He is 10inches tall and weights just under 7pounds, he is a cross papillion and cairn ( a wee accident at the breeders). he is as clever as a papilion and as cheeky as a cairn. I would love to rescue a dog but am afraid that Dexter may get hurt by a bigger dog and you rarely get small dog in rescue centers(I have been looking). So what kind of dog should i get? Dexter is very dominant with all the dogs we know.

Hi there weev, what a difficult question Very Happy I will try to help you, but you must first understand that no two dogs are the same. What im getting at is, I have a Boxer but he's not the same as all other Boxers, dogs as you well know have there own personalities and character, thats why we love them so much. So even if an expert recommended you get a particular breed of dog as a second dog, there are still no guarantee the the dog will bond with your current dog. Don't be completely put off by getting a bigger dog than the dog you already have. Im not saying go out and buy a St Bernard or a Great Dane but you could think about getting a slightly larger dog. What about getting another cross breed? I know its a bit of a lottery on how the dog will turn out, but if you get him or her young enough Im sure it could make an excellent addition to your family.
I found this for you I hope its of some help.
