Hair colour, help!!(4 Messages)

    Does anyone know how to get black hair colour out of hair?? My natural colour is red and Ive been dying it black for a couple of years, using permanent home hair colour, so theres layers of dye on my hair. Ive recently decided id prefer it as a medium brown shade but have tried harsh shampoos and even washing up liquid to fade the colour but it hasnt yet worked (its only been a 2 days tho) does this method work, as ive been told or do i have to bleach it. Cant really afford numerous trips to salons but is there any good stripping shampoos out there, and i can just cut my hair shorter if it gets v. dry??Help please!!

    When I was in Beauty School, we used a paste of prell shampoo and baking soda to help take color out of hair. It probably won't get it all, but will help.

    I have exactly the same problem! I've been dying my hair black for over a year now but decided i'd like to go back to my natural colour of a medium brown, I haven't dyed my hair for about 4 months and its steadily growing out which I think is the best thing to do. I also realised that Tresemme anti-breakage shampoo strips some of the colour out of my hair if I wash it every 3 days as it goes a little bit greasy and the anti-breakage shampoo and conditioner will be alot less harsh on your hair than having it stripped..my hairdresser recommend sea kelp tablets (which you can get from health stores) as they contain iodine which is good for your hair and stimulate growth and strength so your hair will grow quicker and allow new hair to come through..I've been looking around for home remedies to hurry along the process and the most popular seems to be washing up liquid and extra virgin olive oil or prell shampoo..I haven't tried any of these yet but i'd probably say the best thing is to used one of these, wrap it in plastic with a hot towel on your head, leave for a while and then wash out and use a deep conditioning shampoo to keep up the health of your hair Very Happy xx

    Why do people post about shampoo(s) that strip color?! Its NOT the shampoo that strips the color, its the WATER (The shampoo's Ingredients / pH do HELP) Shampoos have been formulated for years to be Color-Safe (Since the 1970's) Meaning they actually REDUCE the stripping cause by exposure to water. Shampoos like PRELL®, Dandruff Shampoos like HEAD & SHOULDERS ® And Baby Shampoos like Johnsons® have been reformulated to make them as Color-Safe as possible. PRELL® was an OLD P & G formula that was designed to get hair as clean as possible, the detergent base formula had a SLIGHTLY Alkaline reaction in water which was incidental and was CHANGED to a 'pH Balanced' formula in the early 1980's. The Ingredient in Dandruff Shampoos work best in a slightly alkaline base although that has been changed so the formula is NEUTRAL or SLIGHTLY ACID. Baby Shampoos can only be 'Tear-Free' if the Shampoo is VERY SLIGHTLY Alkaline or NEUTRAL like Natural Tears. They do NOT strip hair enough to be of any real value as a Hair Color Remover, just because careless people OVERPROCESS and neglect their hair and can't get it to hold color through a few shampoos they think it's the shampoo's fault. Save yourself some grief and get a Haircolor Remover from the drugstore or beauty supply
