AEG Lavatherm 55800 problem

We've had this condenser tumble dryer for about 16 months. Today it stopped working and displayed the 'empty water' light. The water reservoir was empty. Any ideas what can cause this? I suspect a blockage somewhere which prevents water getting into the reservoir, and I would like to fix it myself.
