    Hi

I am an international student and was told by Sales guy that i could cancel my membership by giving 3 months notice and when i gave them 3 months notice they declined the same by stating that i need to complete 12 months before giving 3 months notice. And now, on non payment they have threatened to send my case to debt collection agency. what do you suggest i should do? I want to complain against Esporta as well.

    Thanks for ur help.

It took me a long time to sort things out but I got there eventually and they cancelled my membership.

I would suggest you go to citizens advice and ask them to get involved. As their contracts are very one sided(in their favour) they can be classed as unfair and therefore not enforcable.

It really depends on your reason for wanting to cancel, but my advice would be read all the small print and keep batting the ball back in their court.

    Good luck

I would urge you to not to worry. They paid my money back to me. Please contact Trading standards agency or look through The sales of goods act 1979 - You can take them to court not only for poor service but for stress caused to you. Consumer Direct is another organisation that can hlep. Follow the links in your Google search.

I think Esporta is overpriced and they try to trick you into a contract with nice promises and then keep you on a contract to keep paying even though you are not satisfied.

I don't see the point in paying a gym fee and then having a bunch of clubs use the swimming pool all the time like at Esporta which stops me from using the pool freely.

Any company who is not prepared to have a shorter contract than a year or gives you at least a month or two to decide if you are happy at that gym should not be trusted.

I will never join an Esporta health club again. It's cheaper and less stress to just buy yourself a treadmill and excersise at home.

    Hello,

We are in the same situation. We canceled the DD and they passed our debt to ARC. How have you solved it? Did you pay them?
Have any of you gone to Court against Esporta and ARC??

    Regards,

Unless you have proof, they will have all the evidence against you to collect money.

What I did was to keep the Direct Debit active and I wrote them a really stinky letter telling them how they treated me and how much I will never say a good word about them to anyone I know ect. ect. and eventually they gave me a call and said I can cancel the direct debit.
The truth of the matter is, I just got lucky, but the majority of people simply have to choke up the monthly fees until expiration of their contract or get taken to court.

The moral of the story is don't ever listen to a sales pitch like: you can just cancel when you need to. GET PROOF. I will never again agree to anything before I have written proof.

Esporta gym are clever and they do it to thousands, not just you and me.
