good luck john....btw what's a butcher?....say hi to Kim if you see her.....

Hey Druid perhaps they can add a new sport to the olympics...... "the kiathlon".....Kayaking down river rapids while shooting targets with an air rifle. There will be one qualification test....the ability to perform the eskimo manuever while keeping one's beer secured in it's cup/stubby holder.

    Dam rite!!!! Razz

I went and did the Tawe yestaday "and very nice it was too!!" Cool (`Stonking Through` at a IV - V + Shocked

I must say it feels `really wierd` Confused to be paddling our UK rivers in mid-summer though .
The trees are green and the waters `warm` (we`re more used to the water being `Really Brass Monkeys Twisted Evil `, as we usually only get to paddle in the winter over here).

Really interesting how `different` the water was too after my Alps trip. Same grade but a different kinda feel about the difficulty. `Still Wet Though!!` Razz

Cheers ajvenom, a butchers is just a shop the sells meat.

Yeah, i think kim managed lifestyle which includes health and beauty.

The river near where i live floods quite regularly because we on the edge of the pennines we get plenty of rainfall! It needs to be timed well though, its takes about 35 minutes from the rain stopping to the water dropping.

Have u any pictures of the Tawe? I might have to head there with my mates, we intend to kayak the Zambezi eventually so the more experience the better. I don't know how the grading system works but i think the ones near us are pretty low grades.

I'm enjoying the warm water too, got soaked white water rafting and the temperature was very pleasant. I'm not gonna lie, i dont like cold water, not a fan at all!

As I said ; We usually go paddling in the winter in the UK. `I`ve never taken a thermometer with me` but when you`ve got `a Skin of Ice` on the water next to bank `You know it`s Pretty Chilly?!` Confused

The Alps water is all `Snow Melt` so that`s `Relatively Fresh` aswell (at least the air temperature is warm though Smile )

The water in Wales at the moment is `warm as toast` Very Happy currently a lovely 14 degrees c.

My advice to `our intrepid mod` Wink is:- "Get yourself up to The Treweryn mate!" (The Welsh Canoeing Association White Water Centre near Balatry:- www.welsh-canoeing.org.uk).

`It`s Brilliant` Razz It`s all geared up for Rafting Trips, Kayaking and all manner of Saftey and Resque courses.

I think the water may be slightly colder here but not by much, wet suits aren't entirely necessary anyway.

Thanks for the advice, hopefully will in the near future, was in Newquay a fortnight ago doin some sea kayakin, that was lots of fun until it got stormy and they closed the beaches.

Just been having a browse on the welsh canoeing site, never realised u had to get permission and licenses, what a joke!

What boat do you use? I used to have an armada, got 2 now but used to have 5. My main boats is my Pyranha Micro 230 but i've also got a moby d*ck (a huge stable boat so i use it for recruiting people) and i used to have a perception corsica but sold it cos it was surplus to requirements.

    I`ve got an ageing German `all-rounder` called an `Eskimo Quadro` .

This sort of boat was the way to go 5 or 6 years ago but now it seems
that most young paddlers are now opting for 2 boats instead (ie `a Lunch Box `for playing Laughing and a Creek Boat for River Running Cool .

I`m pretty `old school` really and prefer to have one boat for all occasions.
