Just found your forum and the same thing happened to one of our employees last month, cruise control stuck, nothing would turn it off so he ditched it into the crash barrier at 73 mph! Fortunately he was not injured but it could have been much, much worse.

His car is now repaired but we are reluctant to put him back in it, duty of care and all that!

I have asked for something in writing from the dealer to state the car is safe but from the comments on this forum it does not look like I will get anywhere so am very interested in joining with you in taking it further.

I'd be more than happy to take it forward....what do you recommend we do? BMW are refusing to believe there is an issue. I know you can report incidences to DVLC and if there are enough they will force an investigation. Failing that, watchdog! But we need everyone who has entered a message on this site to do it!

hi, my wife's company were good enough to replace the 520d with a mercedes, therefore that should be the end of it. i contacted watchdog, but no response. i would imagine they need a lot of complaints before they take it seriously.

Thanks for your posts. It looks like nothing so far has been followed up on this so to take it further I need you to email me at pch@castlegroup.co.uk or Kelly whose email address is on page 1 of this forum and then we can decide which way to go.

I agree with Kelly that we need as many people affected by this as possible to have the maximum effect.

    Please send your emails.

    Hi All,

Peter, Kelly and I are going to see if we can take up the issue. If anyone else wishes to join us then please get in contact - we would specifically like to get in contact with the post from the person who was injured alas Stevie Boy posted in Dec 07.

My husband had a crash on the M6 last week after the cruise control on his BMW 5 series failed to disengage at 68 mph.

As you have all described the brake and cruise control lever failed to disengage the cruise control.

Using the hand brake and several concrete bollards to stop the car he is lucky to be with me and his 3 young children today!

The car is with BMW being fixed at the moment. They don't seem unduly concerned about this potentially fatal crash being caused by a fundamental failing in their car!
