    Hi,

Has anyone heard/experienced failure of cruise control to disengage? We have just experienced failure of the cruise control at 40mph. We tried the break and the on/off switch and neither had any affect. Fortunately we were lucky and swerved onto a bank which helped stop the car along with the handbreak.

Your thoughts/comments would be very much appreciated!!!

Hi, my wife has a BMW 520d which up intil yesterday she enjoyed. However yesterday she had a problem with the car coming out of cruise control, fortunately she was unhurt but we have no confidence in the car and we will be getting rid. Do other people have this problem with BMW too?

Hi, thanks for your reply. BMW did a diagnostic on my car and claimed everything was ok. I'm convinced the cruise control was at fault and we tried all everything to stop the car. Have BMW run a diagnostic on yours?

Hi, just googled and found this site.

Hubby, myself and 9 month old baby experienced this on Weds 21st Nov, on a family trip to Edinburgh. We were cruising on M/way when a car pulled infront of us into fast lane. Our cruise control failed to deactivate when using the brake or stalk. We swerved to avoid hitting the car infront and hit a truck in the middle lane. Very very scary, thankfully all involved were uninjured. Shame about the car.

I work in Marketing and need details from you guys. We should persue this with BMW Head Office immediately, and or maybe Press Release this if we dont get anywhere?? Power of the masses and all that...

We could all have been in fatal accidents because of this fault. Our local dealership said I could book my car in and pay for diagnostics to be run, but by the sound of things this is unlikely to show anything??. Insurance wont cover the cost of identifying the fault.

    Please get intouch.

Hello everyone. I'm very interested in your comments as on the 1st of August this year my boss and i were driving his BMW 520d when the cruise control failed to disengage with all three lanes in front of us full. As a last resort my boss pulled the handbrake and the car went off the road at 70mph!!!! I now very fortunately sport only a large scar down my right arm from surgery to put metal plates on my bones.

I am very unhappy and had believed the BMW line of "this has never happened before" but it seems to be reasonably common. I would be very interested in taking legal action/ publicity in some form as the accident could very nearly killed the pair of us. The car went though a fence and rolled, completely shattering the front end.

Our insurers had an independent test done which said they couldn't find a fault, however it had been through an accident(?). An independent witness said that he had seen no brake lights came on before the car came off the road the same as you've all mentioned despite my frantic stamping - no brakes would work, the stick wouldn't disengage nor the clutch.

    Please let me know.

I am so sorry to hear of awful injuries as a result of this fault. My husband and I still can't believe how lucky we all were to come out unscathed from our crash.

Initially I think our options are for us jointly take this up with BMW and to join at a solicitor to take this forward on our behalf. Not sure if we could get any free legal advice from anywhere??

And/Or we could email BBC's Top Gear in the hope that they would persue this with BMW or even better on the show to get more people to come forward. I think may be interested in running a story on this as BMW is supposedly one of the better car brands and this fault clearly requires some sort of recall.

We could possibly Press Release our accidents to the press/car mags etc in the hope they'd run a story and maybe more people will come forward too?
