Garden Drainage

I just recently bought a new house and I am planning on 'doing' the garden this summer. However over the winter months I have noticed a drainage problem in the back garden. The grass at the back turns in to a marsh land and collects a couple of centimeters of water on the surface. Does anyone know the best way to solve this problem as I would still like to have some grass and plants out the back, but at present it is just not possible.



Any suggestions would be welcomed!
