I have had many air guns over the last 55 years the last one was a Webley Junior, but I got fed up reloading it so decided to look at Co2 air pistols just for pinking in the back garden, after reading all the reviews I could find on the Internet the Walther CP88 looked a good proposition this was ordered from Uttings lunch time on a Monday arrived Tuesday 9.30 am excellent! service.

The CP88 is a good copy of the original weapon and I was quite impressed with it, the first trial with it using iron sights was quite promising 8 shots in a 75mm circle at 10m hand held, not bad! but when I changed the magazine the gun was shooting to the left and the point of impact tended to vary each time I changed the magazine, the problem here is that the top slide and barrel which opens to insert the magazine is rather a sloppy fit on to the main body of the gun which is a problem with most of the Co2 guns with a movable top slide and barrel, the cure here is to take off the top slide and squeeze the top slide runners together in a vice until virtually all of the side movement is removed. Now resting on a table top for support I can put 8 shots in a 25mm circle at 20m using a Walther MRD sight. This fix should work on other co2 guns with a die cast top slide.

I have had the CP88 for a month now and shot over 3000 bisley practice pellets through it and I get about 80 shots per Co2 Capsule with the out door temperature between 10 and 16C, there have been no problems apart from low power in double action mode this was cured by re-tensioning the spring on the trigger linkage, I use an home made silencer to cut down on the crack when firing in the back garden which does not alter the accuracy at all. Overall I an very pleased with the CP88 and now it has been run in the action is very smooth, it is a fairly heavy piece of kit but you soon get used to it.

Since I bought the CP88 I have looked at lots of other Co2 pistols and most seem to have something I did not like about them ie: plastic parts, to light, bad quality, and low power so I think my next gun will be a Beretta 92FS Umarex.

I toyed with the idea of a Co2 pistol and almost got the Colt 1911, but ended up getting an airsoft pistol which is a barrel of fun too use but uses up bb's and gas like there's no tomorrow

Its a great gun but i was wondering if you could leave it for a long time with the air canister already pierced
