sony dav 150

Hi,

I have a dav 150 and find that the picture is excellent on dvd if you use a normal copyright dvd,if you try a ripped copy the dvd from a friend it will not play at all or if it does there is a sound from the drive that sounds as it is falling to pieces,new dvd no prob,ripped=very noisy no pic,any ideas how to change this.I've been told that sony has an excellent copyright protection but can be changed,pls help.
