I have a 2000 (w) 1.8 zafira which holds back at around 2000 rpm when at cruising speed and sometimes does it at low city speeds (20 -30 mph) when it happens there is a loss of power and the rev counter needle can be seen wavering up and down by as much as 500 rpm. Have had new plugs and a new coil pack fitted but the problem is still there. Has anyone else experienced similar problems or know what the cause may be?

Zpdate to Zafira running problems. I rang a local Vauxhall dealer (Hartwells) and explained the problem, they said it was a problem with the air flow meter which they kindly sold me for over £100 - guess what it has not cured the problem and electrical parts are non-returnable! Now they want £50 + vat to put the car onto a diagnostic machine. Can anyone help with suggestions before I throw yet more money at it?

Hi Dereck...My Vauxhall zafira has similar problems.. and following a visit to my local Vauxhall agent.. £76 poorer.. they told me well after an hour.. they where not sure but it could be..£1000 - £3000 of work .. (would I like to give them an open cheque??).. you can imagine my answer!!!

However further investigations with the garage I always use ( NOT Vaux.. AGENT!) and info from the ECU Centre it appears to be the EGR valve.. exhaust gas something or other.. my next problem is identifying which one, as there are 5 and the local Vaux agent isn't co-operative.

Current actions are that my local garage are searching the net to see if there is any further info available.

I guess I will change the EGR... any one else have any views

hi there its the egr valve for sure, about 65 pounds to buy, located as you look at the motor head off to the top right just underneath, cylinder shaped.

1st time to this forum, I have 1.6 Zafira Club version 2002 have recently had the same problems. Took it to my local garage who did a diagnostic and said it could be the EGR or the Coil Pack. Took it to National who claimed it was the EGR which I subsequently replaced and the car was going fine, but I wasn't holding my breath. Sure enough, a week later the problem came back, took it back to the same Garage and now it's the coil pack which needs replacing.

When it first started all the warning lights on the dashboard came then a week later it was just the engine management light that came up.

On another forum there is some speculation that the symptoms sound similar to a dodgy air flow meter.

Does anyone know is this just down to general wear & tear, or are there other contributory factors that could of caused this ?

    Very Happy
Ok Since last putting my Zafira problem on here I found a vauxhall agent with some sense (pomphreys of Sittingbourne in Kent) the service manager dealt with me as a customer and human being, spent time to explain what was neede to be done, took my car and completed a diagnostic check, contacted Vauxhall motors to find out reason for code - replaced one part which was faulty (pedal Switch) which cleared the primary fault for 4 days took it back as fault had appeared again and further rtests proved a faulty cable in the wire loom - they changed it - with no extra charge - and since then have completed over 2,0000 miles with no fault!!!

    Hi,

I have a 2004 1.6 Life Zafira and the engine management light is staying lit. I went to the garage on Friday when it was intermitently flashing and the man at the garage said there was nothing to worry about until it stays on. What do you think the problem is?

    Your help is much appreciated

we have had a jerkiness/misfire problem on our Zafira since we had it in 2001. Its a 1999 1.8i. It happens at just the point the throttle is opening i.e. just as you have resistance on the accelerator. Its particularly noticeable when you want to just keep the car moving in say a 30mph area. The car jerks quite badly at times. If you accelerate its fine, if you come off the accelerator its fine. Its just that bit in the middle.

Garages have looked at the car to no avail and yes we have had new plugs, air flow meter and a bill or two!

I am interested to see that it might be the primary EGR valve or the accelerator itself.

As to the engine management light. Ours used to come on frequently, worrying us. We found the problem ourselves! When the oil level starts getting lower the light comes on. Top up and it goes away. Easy as that! So check the oil especially if you have someone service the car cos in my experience they never fill it up to 'full'.

Thanks for that but unfortunately after spending £800 and then being told i could spend a further £600 and could still be no closer to getting to the route of the problem . I decided to get rid of the Zafira - someone elses problems now not mine gladly.
