Over heated Civic Engine

My girlfriend drove her car for 50 miles without water in the radiator. I have a mate who has looked at it and he thinks the head gasket has gone, and there is a knocking that sounds like a loose piston.


She bought it last month, and doesn't want to get waste all the money. People advise me that it isn't worth getting the head gasket replaced, as there are other things that will need doing. I.e. Skimming and crack testing.


What do you think?


Is anyone interested in buying it? HONDA CIVIC M Reg 100k miles, VTEC 1.6 Reasonable condition.
