wireless ADVENT trouble.

hi, i just got my 1st laptop, (a cheap advent from PC world)

it has wireless thingy built in so i wanna get a wireless router so i can surf from downstairs.

the thing is, i clicked on the wireless symbol thing on the desktop tray, and it says wireless turned off, if i click it to turn on, it says i must turn on the wireless hardware ?.. any help please?.. must i unscrew something!?
