Laptop help please

Hello all! I'm fairly new to this whole comupting malarky and need some advice. I am currently looking for a laptop but my search isn't getting very far as I don't really know what to look for or where to find it!

I'm wanting it for the internet (preferably wifi), watching dvds, playing music and general computer use.

The all important bit, budget: I'm willing to spend up to £700 but will go to £900 for something special.

Definitely don't rush your purchase. I purchased my laptop with the deciding factor being the discount I get through work, but I know everyone will have different reasons and preferences, just don't feel pressured to buy before you've had a chance to shop around enough. I take my laptop when I travel and actually check it in, so if you plan to do this too don't forget to get software to protect your files and make sure no one else can access them. I've been using StompSoft's Digital Vault and have been pretty pleased with it.
