Has anyone heard of a Weimar clarinet? This brand is being sold on ebay and I'm having trouble finding information on it. Thanks! -

Believe me, those things will break in about a month of playing them. That's why they sell for so cheap on eBay. Don't waste your time/money on those. They are junk. -

Don't believe this.... I just bought a Weimar trumpet for my son, and it's a wonderful instrument. Notice this person's name is "Clarinet man". He's probably in the business of selling clarinets and just doesn't want the competition. I'm thinking about buying a Weimar clarinet and was just curious about other feedback.
If your child is just starting out - I would take the risk. The Weimar instruments cost a fraction of others. You can get a better horn for your child when they get older and are ready to graduate into high school. They are going to bang around their starter horns and ruin a better instrument before they get into high school.
Signed, a happy mom with a reasonably priced starter horn.
P.S. I am principally a flute/piccolo player. Having played many different brands of flutes and piccolos, for a beginner - there just isn't that much difference when it comes to a new instrument. A new instrument is much better than an older, used one that is likely to break and be unreliable - for the same money. -

Alright, sure, mudsling if you wish, but, believe me, I am quite well seasoned in the buying of clarinets. Note, clarinets, NOT trumpets. What I suggest is that you invest slightly more money in, say, a Selmer 1400 or a Vito. Well trusted brands, very dependable. You can get these instruments for as little as $150 on Ebay. -

In response to this, I would reccomend these insruments for begginers only.
Also, the lady does have a good point. You certainly could buy a so called "Weimar" clarinet for a begginner. This would be a good i dea as she said becase you could knock them around, but children should know that instuments are quite obviously delicate and should not be taking beatings. -

I purchased a Weimar clarinet on ebay about 3 years ago and have been very happy with it. I am a recreational player having played through High School (but now I'm much older). This clarinet sounds much better than the Plastic Bundy model I played for many years. Additionally, my local music store & repair was happy to repair it for me when one of the pads was off. They didn't make any claims to the value of the clarinet other than stating it had a nice sound and comparables do cost in the $700 range. As for being flat in the upper register, it does have a tendency to flat with the higher notes that can be compensated for with proper playing technique and this instrument doesn't squeak when played poorly. My 9 year old was able to make some nice notes from it, the 1st time she blew air into it. Honestly, I can't understand why so many bad reviews on this brand other than the locals don't want to lose market share. If you are a recreational player or simply looking for a starter instrument for a student. Weimar which run between $75-$150 on ebay is not a bad option. Incidentally, I decided to buy a flute to see how it sounds yesterday...same brand Weimar. And yes, we also own Jupiters and several high-end stringed instruments.
