Hi,
I recently purchased a 2003 vespa px125 - everything was going great (well, apart from possibly my inexperienced riding ...) until yesterday/this morning.
During heavy rains yesterday I noticed that when I changed gears, it would take a little while before accelerating up (and infact kicked in rather like a turbo). This morning, I found that when I slow/stopped at traffic lights/roundabouts that the engine would slowly die. On one occasion it took a little while to restart (much to the annoyanceof the people behind).
Has anyone experienced this before, and is there anything I should be looking for (apart from the bus) ? I am not at all mechanically minded ......
Cheers

I am having a very similar problem to this on my Vespa Primavera ET3 - when I come to a junction or slow down when in traffic I apply the clutch and the engine cuts and I have to restart. This seems to happen even when the engine has warmed up.
I am new to scootering so hope there is an easy explanation
Any ideas ? -

Hi justJones -
I had a very simple fix for my issue - always remember to push the choke back in !!! I had been accidentally leaving it pulled out by about half a centimeter - once I ensured it was fully returned, I have not had the issue since (which pleases the people behind me at lights/roundabouts no end, I'm sure !).
Hope you find something similar helps you - I was dreading what the bills etc could run to if there was something mechanically wrong (especially as I have only had the bike 4 weeks now).

Thanks Hardhat, I think this will be useful as I have been messing about with the choke a bit - how long are you supposed to leave it out before closing - I always feel like the engine is gonna cut out if I push it back in too early ?
Also, my gears keep slipping, I know the gears on old vespas can be close together but I often end up in fourth when I think i'm in third !
Anyone else have this problem ? -

I tend to push the choke back in pretty much as soon as the engine starts up.
It's getting into 2nd gear that I sometimes have issues with, but I'm sure thats more down to me rather than the bike. I sometimes just miss the gear and end up revving unneccesarily, before finding it and pulling a wheelie (always fun on a roundabout !!).
More practice, and I'm sure I'll be safe to be allowed on the roads !! -
