how long should it take the radiator fan to kick in whilst the engine is idling? my n reg astra's temp gauge reaches nearly 100 degrees before i get nervous and switch the engine off. i tried it just a minute ago, had the engine running for about 10 minutes and the fan didn't move. any solutions?

    thanks

    hi gemma

i didn't find out what exactly the problem is but a call to the local breakers yard meant i picked up a radiator fan for £15! it's very easy on an astra to fit and now everything works fine.

good luck with your corsa and may vauxhall cars rule the world!

it could be the radiator fan switch also check that the fan spins freely if it doesn't then the fuse would of blown and it will require a new fan

I have a old F reg Astra which was overheating and the fan never kicked in, but it wasn't due to a dodgy fan, it was faulty thermostat, the thermostat would never open so the radiator never got hot and the fan didn't run, I guess the fan sensor is on the radiator somewhere? I had the thermostat changed and all is well. What made me think to check was a similar thing happened on my central heating at home some of the thermostatic radiator valves had jammed shut so nothing was getting warm, I replace the with these radiator valves, at it works a treat, rambling now.

    hope this helps

could be the thermastat or a basic water and cooler change
