What's best for me?

Hi,
I'm currently living in Norway, but will be studying in the UK starting this autumn. I’m trying to update myself on networks, tariffs etc in the UK. In Norway the cheapest way to use a mobile phone is through prepaid cash cards which you fill up on the internet with your debit card. I currently pay 6p a minute to any network/landline anytime and 3p pr text, there’s no line rental or binding contract.
I have yet to find anything like this in the UK, Virgin mobile and other pay as you talk offers are far more expensive.
Basically, I think I’ll be talking about 100 minutes a month (to mobiles on a variety of networks), evenly split between peak and off peak hours. Also, I think I’ll send about 100 texts a month. So what’s the best deal for me? I’ll present to scenarios
1) I’ll be using to phone I have today with the usage stated above
2) Seems to me that I almost “have to” get a subsidised phone to justify paying line rental. Might like a new camera phone too, some of them look quite tasty. What would be the best deal for me if I do decide I want a new phone (with the usage stated above)?
Have a couple of other miscellaneous questions. Do Vodaphone’s “Anytime” tariffs include calls to any network? And could someone explain what cash-back means Does someone actually send you back money….? It really is a jungle out there. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
