    Hi,

I have a manual 1996 honda civic. I am having problems with speedometer. The speedometer sometimes judt does not work. I have no idea what causes it. As I am driving along, sometimes it starts working. Also odometer does not work while speedometer has stopped working.

Has anybody got any pointers as to why this is happening? Has anyone else had a similar problem?

    Thanks

Sorry to hear you also have a similar problem. I also have been asking and the honda dealer says I need to replace the instrument cluster all together. But I am not sure as one it costs a lot and two I do not think he knows whats causing it. I do not want to spend all that money and then have the problem come back. Anyway, if you ever come across a solution then do let me know.

I just bought a 92 Civic and the speedometer also sometimes will work(not very accurate sometimes also) but my odometer has always worked. I briefly talked to a mechanic the other day at a wedding about it and he said that often times in older cards there are tons of tiny gears that control that and they often go out so you then need to get another instrument cluster. Ebay is a good option, if not, maybe a junkyard? I would definitely not pay the dealership price....
