    Hi there

I'm wondering if someone can help or if someone has had a similar problem. We purchased a new Renault scenic 1.6 a couple of weeks ago. When I change gears (specifically from 2nd into 3rd) the car is over revving. Renault have tested and driven her over and over again and say there is NO problem yet both hubby and I seem to have a problem. They blame this on our driving style. The way I change gears is in one motion - as the accelerator is coming up the clutch is on its way down – this is causing the over revving. When I took the sales manager of Renault for a drive it happened to me and not to him. The difference in driving style was very apparent. He released the accelerator first (causing a jerking motion) then depressed the clutch - gear change (another jerking motion) released the clutch (jerk again) then accelerated. This driving style in my optioning is not smooth and will cause whiplash to say the least. We were told that we need to adapt our driving technique to suit the car as it no longer has clutch or accelerator cables. I find this hard to believe. I am so frustrated and depressed. We have been avid Renault owners for a long time but this has now felt a very bad taste in our mouths. I would like to know if anyone out there has experience a similar problem and if it was resolved. If so HOW … please help.

    Hi there,

I have the same problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! both hubby and I have the same problem when driving and changing gears 2nd to 3rd.. Exactly like you are describing but with the added embarrasement of loads of white smoke coming out of the exhaust and smelling like it is on fire. Our car has been at the garage for the past 2 weeks now as they are saying there is nothing wrong with the car. but I am sorry I don't think it is our driving at all. especially since with us the car starts exallarating and it just keeps on going and going and nothing seems to work to stop it. Please let me know if you discover what the problem might be maybe I can help the garage and point them to the way. I had to call the AA once and they told me that it might be overfuelling? I don't know if you find out what the problem is or you adjust your way of driving and it doesn't happen again ( which I doubt ) please help me out. I will also keep you updated with my scenic. Which I have owned for 3.5 weeks now but have only driven it for 1.5 weeks as the rest of the time it has spent at the garage

Hi there - glad to hear that I am not the only one out there driving with flippers on. I'm afraid I don't have good news for you as my battle still continues with Renault. What has happened since my last post is this: The sales manager of Renault (convinced it was my driving style) took her from me and on his way back to the workshop had it happen to him 3 times. I don't think I have ever been so happy. Anyways to cut a long story short this convinced them that there was a problem. They kept my car for 3 weeks and let me use a loan car during this period (same year and model). Weeks 1 and 2 went off well and I had my faith in Renault restored only to have the exact same thing happen to the ‘new’ loan car. They took the loan car back and handed me my car having sworn it was now fixed. IT’S NOW WORSE THEN EVER. Hubby and I are at wits end. So in a nutshell – no solution to the problem and apparently the sales manager here says reported cases of this across their range. We are now in a legal battle of getting a FULL refund back from them.

I know this is probably not what you wanted to hear but this is where we are right now. If your guys come up with a miracle cure – please let me know.

    Good luck

Hi there I have some good news. Not how it should be fixed. But Renault knows about the problem. They have even agreed to fix the problem under the Yellow OTS scheme. Ask them about it.There is lots of information on the parkers website.
Phone your Renault and ask the booking department about the Yellow OTS Scheme. The car needs a new Turbo which will cost a fortune.
Keep me updated about what they say oke?

    Hi Tamara,

Information as correct as can be. I am going to go to Watchdog with this as it can be quite dangerous. My dealer called Renault Head Office today and they confirmed the scheme. ( I knew that already though but they propably tought woman and a car )You are in all rights to have the car fixed or even get your money back under the Supply of Goods Implied Terms Act 1973 as the goods are faulty. To qualify under the OTS scheme the car has to be under 4 years old and have a full Renault Service history. I guess yours would qaulify then. I am a woman possesed and on a mission to get more light shed on this. It is ridiculous.

So go with all this info to Renault and show them some balls.

As for the drink don't drink alcohol neither coffee but I am just so happy I was able to help you out with this. I hope you get it sorted out. Keep me updated. If I come accross any more valuable information I will let you know. Go for it!!!!!!!!

What is the "Yellow OTS Scheme" ?

Hi the yellow OTS scheme is a scheme that Renault has agreed to to fix some Turbo failures. You would have to qualify though under the ''rules'' but it is worth checking it out.

If you go to www.google.co.uk and type in yellow ots scheme it will bring you to the parkers website ehwre all this information is stated. If you contact Renault they might tell you that they do not know anyhting about it but then again why would they want to agree with you to fit a new turbo if it costs thema lot of money. But just persevere and it might get sorted. Call the head office etc. Your car will propably need to go for a diagnostic fisrt to find out if it is indeed the turbo. the diag will cost £50.

    good luck

i had exactly the same experience with our Renault scenic 2004 model. we took it back to renault and complained. they too said it was due to driver style. the problem seems to be with the 'fly by wire' technology where there is no mechanical connection between the accelerator and the engine. they said there was nothing we could do about it and would also have to adapt to the particular characteristics of the car. we were very depressed, and annoyed. however, over time we have adapted the the car, and hardly notice the problem now as there are so many other problems with the car to concentrate our minds. I will never buy a renault again.
