Phillips dvd 615 - Help!

I have had the Phillips dvd 615 since Christmas and it plays ok but I can't record anything on it - when I switch it on it says 'nosignal cam1'. I've unplugged everything else and put the scart lead directly into the back of the TV but still no luck - it's turned out to be a rather expensive way to play dvd's, and I only wanted it to record on! I've never had a dvd player before - Help, please?
