VW Golf 1.9 TDi 130 Mk4 - persistent mysterious faults

Every mechanic I’ve taken it has been baffled or disbelieving (as the problem is intermittent, but always comes back). I’ve had relays/fuses/alternator all replaced with no avail. So before I buy a new dashboard I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on this.



Electrical- Dashboard lights flicker. Blue lights fade on instrument panel. Speaker system produces major feedback making it dangerous and unusable. Driver's side electric window motor failed. Central locking doesn't function correctly, sometimes they all lock randomly or even just lock and unlock repeatedly in some crazy game.



Engine- has mysterious power failures, particularly in the cold. This is really irritating and/or dangerous when pulling onto the motorway or busy roundabouts... Engine sounds noisy in comparison to several other diesels I've driven in the past.
