James, I think you need to contact o2, as you have probably not had the FBF transfered with your number.
I was told by o2 customer service to mention it plenty of times when I was in the shop, otherwise the staff might not tick the boxes.
Mine said free best friend was running, dialled 4444 went for bolt ons (option 2), and then bolt on balances/allowances and it tells you then.
You might need to top it up to receive the credit, or they did say the credit would follow a few days later (after the transfer), and with all the delays with proceedings already, you can expect that to become a week!!

I didn't get my credit until I had topped up by £10 - maybe that's all that's required if you haven't already done so.
Oh but thats not the point is it - you shouldnt have to top up with another £10 or more just to get your old credit back!
Unless its their way of ensuring you stay with them - if you have loads of credit you wont leave O2 until its used up! Something I was thinking of doing after all this bother.
The credit I am waiting for has been on there since january - I have hardly used it thus I want it back without paying more money out so I can continue to use it!

Update 2
Still no credit though so until i get that back the phone is still useless to me!
Any ideas how long it might be or how long I should leave it before chasing it up with O2?
O2 CS activated my account so I could receive calls by topping it up with 1p when I rang them after my old card had been deactivated. The credit took another day or two to be transferred, which was sooner than they said, but I was able to use the phone OK because of the £4.99 refund for the cost of the SIM card.
Was the Best Friend tariff another one where you had to top up with so much per month or so many weeks like the original 'U' tariff I started on? (I changed to one that could be topped up just when it was necessary as soon as I was able to.)

James try this number O8OO OO5OO5
It's much quicker than the normal o2 number, when they ask for your name, tell them it's Pay As You Go and they'll transfer you internally, much quicker than sitting in a massive queue, it jumps their main queue system.

So then, who is still waiting to get their credit back then? I hope I am not alone in not having it back yet.
I am now getting increasingly annoyed by the way O2 are treating those in the same position as me - just because we are not high spenders with the company doesnt mean we dont matter, or that we should get a poor service.
My credit may not be much to them, but its a lot to me, and for it to be 'lost' in the O2 sytsem is virtualy theft by O2 in my book.
If i had spent the money OK fine fair enough but I havent actualy spent it on anything just converted it into a format that can be used to make phone calls on a mobile phone!
I'd just like to know whats going on and why is it taking so long.

I am not happy. I cant understand why a simple operation as crediting an account with call time could take sooooo long. I was advised to wait and give it time (both at the shop and on this board) but it is now a whole week snce the number transfer to the new sim went through and i am growing impatient.
All I have on my phone is the £2.50 (now £2.40) i was given free when i registered my details with O2. That in itself proves a theory wrong in that topping up DOES NOT bring back your old credit. I refuse to be sucked into paying yet more money to this company!
The money (or rather credit) that they owe me is the only thing keeping me from taking my mobile phone custom elsewhere!

That is definitely much longer than you should have to wait for your credit, Richard. O2 should have realised there would be a lot of people needing theirs transferred when the old system was switched off and made provision for this.
After all, they didn't exactly give proper (or accurate) notice of what was happening. If they had contacted all numbers by text back in, say, January, then there wouldn't have been a last minute rush, but, I supect, they still wanted us to keep topping up our credit so we would be 'forced' to stay with them. If I hadn't made my last top-up in March and been given credit as a refund for the new SIM card, I would have used up all mine by now and probably gone over to Tesco Mobile.
I hope you don't have to wait much longer. Presumably you have checked with CS that it is on their system and will get transferred eventually.

My credit took less than 12 hours to come through, although this was a few weeks ago. The old sim card showed IMSI failed, so I put the new sim card in and left the phone switched on. I had been advised not to attempt to make a call with the phone until the credit arrived, as this could 'mess up the transfer'. The amount credited was 13p light, but my father was credited about £5 extra! Neither of use received the £2.50 you mentioned though.

My credit didn't take long to come through either but that was at the start of June.
I remember getting credited with a couple of pounds or so for something a while back. It may have been when I registered my original top-up card to the phone, so that's possibly what Richard is referring to.
