I am looking around for a tuning kit for this engine. Mine is fitted into an 2004 Alhambra SE. An old fuddy duddys car, but I can get a damend sight more fishing gear in it than my MK2 Escort RS. Laughing

Now diesel tuning might not be the thing for this forum, but then again maybe it is.

Has anybody out there gone down this route?

What product did you choose, and why? (price, bhp/torqueincrease, mpg increase, recommendation, service?)

    Would you recommend it?

Has any body had any problems with their intallation? (fault codes, injector, turbo, or engine probs.)

Was yours a DIY or garage job?

Do you have the piggy back box, or was the ECU flashed?

Does anybody know the advantages or disadvantages of the two methods?

I have found loads of webs with boxes for sale and all say their is the best. They would have to wouldn't they! The price variation is quite large too with some systems comming out close to £600 with the VAT (http://www.awesome-gti.co.uk/vw%20sharan/engine.html) and others under £300 all in (http://www.mrhoot.com/proddetail.asp?prod=TBPD010.) Is there really £300 quid more value in the more expensive option?

Enough questions hopefully there are a few of you that have tried some of these products that can help.

    Cheers

    Check out the following site
I looked into doing something to my TDI PD 150 Golf and kept ending up back at the Revo site:

    http://www.revotechnik.com/

They basically download performance code onto your ECU - It costs around £400 but you can get an SPS device which allows you to switch the ECU between standard and performance maps. They claim to be able to get the PD130 up to 170Bhp.

The benefit over the cheaper boxes is that the ECU remap affects your boost pressure as well as fuelling. The boxes just affect fuelling, adding more diesel at a certain stage of the engine cycle.

Revo claim that the code is invisible and once switched to standard even the main dealer with a Vag Com computer cant find it....Apparently even a reflash wont take the Revo code out either.

Adding power and boost pressure will obviously affect turbo and clutch life. It depends how you drive, if you thrash a standard car all the time it'll give up too. The TDI units are pretty sturdy and apparently good for 300K miles. Apparently a 10% reduction is expected....which is not a big deal.

You can get a free trial at a Revo dealer - It runs for 5 hours, then the code expires and your car is back to normal. There are testimonials on the site, and they're all good...unsurprisingly.

Depending on how much extra power you are looking to get, its worth looking at Ecotek values, they give extra pwer and reduce fuel comsuption, got one fitted to my car with pipercross filter and I notice the difference, especially when i pull away.
