I am thinking of purchising a Beeman 2004e single stroke pneumatic pistol (.177). Its rated at 440FPS and i will use bisley sharp points pellets and occasionally prometheus pellets.
Would this pistol have enough power for killing at up to 20 feet. I would be shooting small birds and rats.
Also, would a scope be good, or should i stick with the open sights? -

any hunting should be done with a rifle.
420 fps isn't very strong at ranges that exceed 15ft.
it's just plain cruel.
no point getting a scope on the gun either, it dosen't have enough power to be even accurate at the distances you would use the scope at.
get a rifel with 600fps+, much more fun w/ scope and you will actually kill the animal with your shot, and not have to fire in 3x more at close range to finish it off. -

Would it be able to penatrate feathered birds up to 15 feet? -

I think that gun is only 420fps, I agree that it’s not powerful enough for any kind of hunting... -

it might penetrate at 10-15 ft but it wouldn't kill it.
You would have to shoot point blank at it like 4 times for it to die.
if you are looking to hunt, get a rifel.. more power.. get a scope and it's much funner. -

I killed a crow type bird at about 5 yards with a Benjamin Sheridan .22 pump. They are usually around 400 fps. I would think that I'd get even better penetration w/ .177 cal. Like I'm looking at the Beeman P3 for going on walks. Then I can like pop birds off electric lines. -

Hey, I'm just putting my 2 cents out there... even though it may not be worth an entire 2 cents. -

I'm afraid it's people like you that get air pistol/rifle users a bad name. The comment you made was completely cretinous. If you have nothing better to post, better to stay off this board.

G, sorry.... I didn't know that it was so taboo to try hunting w/ pistols.
