Buying a new laptop

I am looking to buy a new laptop. I need a high performance model as I will be doing quite a bit of multitasking and running large creative design programs. I am looking for at least 1GB of ram and a 17" monitor. Would you advise against the 17"? I am looking for something fairly light and portable but performace is more important to me than portability. I am currently looking at the Dell Inspirion 9300. What do you think of this machine? I am looking to spend about $2000. Help me please!
