Corsa power problems

All fixed now! I had this persistent problem for about 2 years. The garage traced it to an electrical fault in the ignition key/code system. They replaced the ignition switch and the coded ignition key and the problem has never returned. This must be a manufacturers“ fault. -

Wondering if anyone else has suffered from same problem.
Driving along when suddenly all gauges drop to zero and red warning light comes on. Happened intermittently and goes up and down whilst driving along. Stopped car whilst gauges were down wouldn't start again! Got my dad to come and have a look to try and restart it. He came in about 1 hour and it started for him straight away!
Week later same thing happened again. This time when trying to start car it turned over then engine just died.
Tried starting it everyday for a week and half with no luck until today it starts but with all gauges at zero. Managed to then drive it to Vauxhall garage ready to be diagnosed tomorrow.
Had a similar problem a couple of years ago when it was still in warranty but just gauges going to zero no problems with starting it. Vauxhall replaced instrument panel although I don't think that was the actual problem they just did it as it was under warranty. The car has kept going until a few weeks back when problems starting all over again. Worried this time as it's out of warranty and will prob cost me a fortune and really can't afford it.
Surely whern you buy a new car, you buy it new because you want years of trouble free drivinig and peace of mind. I drive around 2 children and don't have any confidence in my car anymore. When something like this happens it must be a manufacturers problem and nothing to do with the way I drive it so why should I have to pay to fix their manufacturing problem.
Your comments please. I'm at a loose end! -

Problem solved and thankfully not too expensive! £65. The multiplug to the instrument panel needed reconnecting and had some sort of grease put on it?!
It's working now but lost all confidence in it and just waiting for a problem to happen again. Might write to Vauxhall just to make myself feel better! -

I have this exact same problem. My Corsa is a '52 plate 1.0 Life.
A couple of months ago I was having the same problem with the instrument panel and the car refusing to start at times. Had my local mechanic round and he tightend up the connection from the dash to the battery and it seemed to fix it and no problems again for ages.
Earlier this week the problem with the dash returned but this time it goes off and comes ion again intermitently sometimes for a few seconds or sometimes for a few minutes at a time. The problems with starting it are not present this time however. I have tightend up the battery connections and checked the fuses myself but with no luck.
Perhaps the plug at the back of the dash is also my problem?
All comments welcome and encouraged! -

Hi guys, sorry new here so i may of crashed your thread??
I have a Combo 1.3 05 plate, mint and really pleased with it, the only problem is i have had two cases where i have lost power in 5th.
Really strange, no power, put the pedal to the floor and nothing, then drop down and its ok again?
Anyone ever come across this?

Vauxhall manufacturing gremlins hit my Vauhall 1.2 Corsa which is on an 52 plate. Over a period of six months my car experienced similar problems. Whilst driving the speedometer, fuel quantity, oil temp and mileometer gauges would all fail with the speedo reading zero. Additionally the indicators would not work. This problem was also compounded by the car refusing to start.
Several trips to Vauxhall workshops proved worthless. Their engineers could not recreate the problem or identify the cause. That was until my last visit this month.
At last they have identified the cause. Just behind the dash an electrical connector box is housed. I was reliably told that this connection gradually works itself loose creating the problems and that Vauxhall admit to this manufacturing defect. Running through this box is the imobiliser loom, hence the failing to start problem, as well as many other electrical feeds causing the gauge failures etc.
I have written to Vauxhall Head Office requesting a full refund for the costs of repair. The repair in itself is simple and involves packing out the connector housing costing myself over £60 in labour! I await their response and will post on this site the outcome! -

Hello
I am having a problem with my Vauxhall Corsa Sxi 2001. Just recently the engine management light has come on when I'm starting up the car and only the gauge for the revs is not working. I have previously had the problem of no gauges working and that was due to loose connections. However this seems to be different. Then tried to start it up 5 times yesterday and it refused to. And out on a drive it cut out completely. Can anybody help please??????? I don't want t a huge garage bill!!!!!!
