Acne - NLite & skin peels

Hi, I used the N Lite laser treatment at The Private Clinic Harley St London and had 3 treatments which cost a total of £625. tThey also tried to sell me some more of their own brand products such as creams and sunblock, cleansers etc for £70. The nurse was great and friendly but the service from the clinic was not good as they canceled appointments at very short notice, on one occaision they called me 2 hours before and said something about the lasers being serviced, what a load of rubbish!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyway the stuff seamed to work after the first treatment but after 2 and 3 treatments it got worse and worse. i only had very mild acne and now i have many many scars and the acne has got worse. They told me it gets worse before it gets better and it will clear up after 2 months of my last treatment(June 2008), 4 months on and still getting worse. I have had to go back to my GP and have been reffered to a dermatoligist. My advice is everyone is different and responds in their own way, i only had mild acne ansd it didn't help me so someone with severe acne has no hope, but if you have a spare £600 then try it but i reckon you will be really dissapointed. Save your money and try other things before you go for N Lite.

I am so glad I found this site - I have recently been for a consultation for N lite at the Skin Health Spa, and they persuaded me to have microdermabrasion and a glycolic peel instead.

I had my first of six microdermabrasion (like being sandpapered, but not painful) and peel combos. The peel stings a bit, but my face feels very smooth, although still a bit spotty. I will let you know how I get on. Its £125 for the combo, and I'm having thm every 2 weeks. Not cheap, but I'm 34 and the amount I've spent on my acne over the years is already considerable... !!

Re above posts, Bio Oil is very good. I also like Dermalogica and Origins skin care, plus these companies will give you good sized samples so you can try before wasting your money on something that may not work. I think acne'd skin is also quite senstivie, so I don't like harsh products, organic or plant based stuff is best.

Another thing - I stopped drinking milk a while ago and switched to soya. That helped a little - soya helps balance female hormones apparantly, so it may work for other PCOS acne sufferers.

My husband(30) has had moderate acne since he was a teenager and he has just completed 3 courses of N-Lite at Selfridges. Unfortunately, they have had no effect whatsoever even though the last two treatments were at the second to highest setting. He has been back for another consultation and they are advising that he carry on with the treatments (at our cost) as some people take more than 3 treatments to see any results. Clearly, we are unwilling to keep paying £150 per session in the hope that in 7 or 8 sessions time we might see a result - seems like throwing good money after bad to me! I am not one to take things lying down so I'm going to push for our money back but I don't hold out much hope. Has anyone else managed to get a refund after zero results? Re writing to This Morning, I'm happy to do so and any other publication that gives the process a good review.

I have suffered from acne since i was about 12years old. Like everyone here, i tried topical and oral antibiotics which did nothing. The doctor then put me on Dianette which i stayed on for about 4 or 5 years - a long time by the sounds of it!!! The dianette worked wonders, completely cleared my skin. Anyway, i had what the doctors thought was a mini-stroke, not sure if it was caused by the dianette, thankfully no long term side affects. So they said i could no longer take dianette or ever again. After coming off of it, my skin started getting worse again. I decided to go for n-lite treatment. This was about 3 or 4 years ago now i think, After my first session i noticed an imediate difference as soon as a week later, my skin was much clamer, less red and sore looking. Within a month it was looking really good, hardly any break outs and the scarring and redness was really reduced. I had a 2nd session 3 months later which just improved things so much i didnt feel it was necessary to have any more. Slowly over the last 2 years i am getting small breakouts again, no where near like i used to but enough to bother me......and the scars some of them leave is the worst. So i was thinking of giving the n-lite a go again, but now im not sure after reading all these bad experiences!!

Have now had 2 microdermabrasions and nlite treatments everything was looking much better but then two weeks ago I had a pumpkin peel (type of mild acid peel) and my skin has broke out in the worst way. Due to have another nlite in two weeks time so would like to think this is going to improve my skin but I just cant see this happening. Dont know if the clinic are fobbing me off by saying that the results should be seen 3 months after treatment because obviously I wont be going there at that stage. Would be interested to hear about the results of the 'this morning and watchdog emails because at this point I'm wondering if it is all one big rip off. I might try to contact the doctor who did the original research on the nlite laser through the Hammersmith Hospital. Will keep you all posted. ps I have also cut out dairy and have soya milk, also am taking a zinc supplement as I have read that this can be as effective as taking oral antibiotics after a while.

Hi there - sorry to here about your experience. Re what you said, about waiting for 3 months before seeing results, it seems to me that they basically just say anything to keep you going back for the treatments. When we started at Selfridges, the nurse/beautician/whatever said three treatments should do the trick but now they're saying that only some people see results in 3 treatments and basically if you're not one of them then you just have to persevere until you do. At the start, they were really bullish about how effective the treatment is but now it's just a case of wait and see. And all the time you're spending more and more money. I'm really going to look into the legal position because it seems to me that if you go to a hairdressers and pay for a perm and it doesn't work then you don't pay for it! I don't see why this treatment should be any different. Re Selfridges though, they have now offered to do another three treatments for free but not because they haven't worked, but because they didn't take a picture of my husband's skin when he started with them! I suspect they just wanted me to stop hassling them but if there's still no improvement after the 3 free treatments I'm still going to ask for my money back! xx

I will be really thanksful if some one can advice what should be the appropriate gap in the sittings. I sit like 10 days or more.

I've had my nlite treatments one month apart. Dont know if there is a set time between treatments think it all depends on your skin problems.

Oh that sounds so distressing! You never really know what you have till it's gone. the same thing happened to me several years ago. Unfortunately it was several years till it cleared up. Left as unexpectedly as it came. Don't fret talk to professionals I'm sure things will work out.
