I have recently bought a civic 1.6 vtec sport and within 3 weeks it has had to go back to Honda.
I need your help! Firstly, funny noises came from the headlamps. It was taken to Honda (who were superb!)they fixed it within a few hours (supplied me with a courtesy car) and also washed inside and out when I came to collect. I was advised the car had 2 new headlamps and motors and that my motor (2003plate) was subject to a recall for this problem. (Therefore previous owner ignored the recall. That was fine until I found that when I drove straight in 2nd gear or made right turns the car screeched and crackled. Contacted Honda (again can not fault) and was told that this problem was another "recall". The problem is that 2nd gear is too slack. No problems as it was all covered under the warentee. Am I just getting fobbed off by Honda saying that basically the 2nd owner did not look after the car or is my civic a Friday afternoon car? 2003 plate owners please advise if your car was subject to recall for any of these problems. Apart from that my Honda is great. Drives like a dream now. I would not swap my civic for the world (Well a Type R maybe...) -

I have had a 2002 Honda Civic since new though not as reliable as my previous four Toyotas I have been reasonably satisfied with the car. I too have had problems with the headlamp leveller motor, once under waranty and now again outside the three year waranty period. For whatever reason this fault though known to Honda and its dealers is not the subject of a recall. If anyone has this problem with there car which is noticable by a rattling sound from the front of the car which is hard to define where it is coming from but can be verified by moving the headlamp leveller switch position and noting if the head lamps move may I sugest they do as I. I cantacted Honda's customer service to first of all be offered, even though the car was out of its waranty period, a free headlamp unit worth £95.00 but I would have to pay the labour. I declined their "generous" offer with a "Sorry, it's not what I expected. I really expected a free repair" pointing out both they and their dealers had admitted its a known fault. It took no more than that to then be told they would pay the full repair costs. Please don't get fobbed off and insist on a free repair.
