Sony DVP-NS305 DVD Player won't play dual lay

I've got a Sony DVP-NS305 DVD player which I've had for a couple of years. It recently wouldn't play DVDs at all. I managed to clean the lens and it now plays Single Layer discs but won't play Dual Layer at all. It used to be quite happy with both. I suspect it may need a clean but as single layers read okay I can't quite work out why it won't read dual?

Its going to cost about £25 to look at initially plus any additional work that needs to be carried out.

Any ideas what the problem could be?
