Could someone please help?? I have a ford escort 95 model. I only seem to be getting 15 - 20 miles from each £5 worth of fuel i put in. Now it keeps cutting out also. I have looked underneath and can't seem to see any leak, however i dipped the oil and it seems overfull could this be the problem?? Would this cause the cutting out of the engine?
Many thanks for any advice given. -

To start with asuming £5 gives you 5 litres of fuel - you're running WAY too rich. As a good rule if you have five gears and it's quite a modern car you should aim to get maybe 50 miles or just under from that. You've got way too much fuel to air ratio therefore. This won't help. I imagine it's fuel injection - so can't help there I suggest you read the book, and if you can't work it out take it to a reputable garage - ie someone who actually knows about ford fuel injection.
Also, check your idle speed, air filter, fuel feed. I should have electronic ignition but if it doesn't then check the points.
This problem usually occurs as a result of a lack of maintenance. Start a spreadsheet to record when you did what. This will help in the future.
Hope this helps - I'm not that good on newish cars but do try and sort out your air filter (you might find it's blocked), and fuel air ratio.
Good luck. -

does the engine try and turn over? if so, did you use the flywheel off you're old engine or the new one? sometimes there can be a slight difference between them which would cause it not to spark, also could try another ignition coil
