Please can someone help? i am getting rid of my bag of nails rover 216 (what a waste of space!) and i would like to get a civic coupe. Can anyone tell me what if any problems these suffer from, what to look out for and which is the best engine. Many thanks

I ran a 1.5i Coupe ( of the 92-96 shape) from 60 to 150,000 Miles. Replacement parts? Tyres, Discs, Pads, Exhaust,1Cv joint and Radiator. I thought it was brilliant. I bought it partly on the basis that it had won a Car magazine group test, In their opinion the 96 on model was not as good, it certainly didn't look as good. I would only fault it on excesive road noise, otherwise it my favourite of the 23cars I have owned. B.T.W the exhaust and many other service parts are common to the 216 Coupe. -

I only ever drove my 95 LSI 2 door coupe, so can't comment on what's the best one. I can tel you about mine though, which I love. The car was a gift from my brother a couple of years ago when it had 133 000 miles on the clock. It has now done 176 000 and it starts and runs like new. It stood for 6 months as Herts magistrates and I came to an understanding to that effect. I started it 3 times in that period, and it fired first time every time without me even getting in to hit the accelerator. While I had it I had the timing belt changed (overdue at 120 000 miles) - I was advised that it looked like new but should be changed anyway. The most recent MOT required a steering part to be replaced (£40) apart from that it had a new clutch at 150 000 miles (the release bearing was squealing, the clutch looked fine but it was only a little more expensive to have that done at the same time). That's really all apart from tyres now and then.
I am living with a broken hot/cold slider switch (I use a pen to slide the control as required) and I had to attend to some rust on the arches, where a stupid bit of plastic trim traps water. The car rarely needs petrol and runs a well in excess of 100 mph on the clock. My satnav suggests the speedo runs 10 % fast, in common with most UK cars.
The only concern I have with the car, which I have now addressed is the vague handling afforded by the stock steel wheels with 13 x 175 x 70 tyres. I just fitted a beautiful set of 17 inch TSW rims with 205 x 40 tyres. This gave me contact with the arches at the rear when cornering which today I partly fixed by rolling the arches. I still get contact if I hit roundabouts aggressively with passengers in the car. I am toying now with stronger springs or flaring the arches.
I love my car - it's paid for, running costs are low and I confidently jump in it for my weekly 1000 mile round trip commute. It will stop working one day, but I bet its not before I complete 2000 miles. -

Depends how much you've got to spend
£5-7k will get you a DC2 Integra Type R. Brilliant engine, 200bhp and revs to 8500rpm (and it's only a 1.8 )
Possibly the best handling front wheel drive car
£1500-£3000 will get you a CRX SiR. Only a 1.6 but still manages up to 160bhp (depending on where it came from)Its getting on a bit but its still capable of beating most normal cars down a twisty B road. I've had one for 3 years and can't think of a real fault with it.
The hatch is a bit squeeky i suppose.....
