I've a Sony HCD-S300 with the same problem. I'm really considering ordering the part and replacing it myself.

Could you please email me the service manual. I couldn't find it on line.

here is my email address. to_protect@hotmail.com

    How much is it?

    Hello Dave,

Please confirm the part # for the Sony DVP S360 Pickup assembly as the following part # at Electronix.com is not listed: A-6062-397-A Generic # KHM 220AAA
What is "VERY ESD" sensitive. Please let know what is ESD.
My email address is: niznimail@yahoo.ca for installation directions - service manual.

I would like to thank you very much for your continued support and help in this matter.

a new picjup assy cost about 55 dollars and laboe is about 50 dollars to install it ..Not really cost efective to repair...todays DVD players do so much more than the 360. so i would say by a new one..

    Hi Dave,

Is it possible to order the pickup assemly from sony and install(fix) it yourself. To justify the cost and save on labour.

    Thank you

no it's not a mechcanical problem , it is a laser failure. you see , the laser is nothing more than a light emitting diode. Basically it shines a focused light up to the disc and it re-focussed to a recieving photo diode to read your disc..It is alot more technical , but thats a basic analogy.
both you units where good units for thier time.in fact you will not get as good a unit from todays dvd players , but the new one will read alot more types of disk...if you just want them for DVD players, the old ones are fine. but your talking about 150 to fix eaceh one

    Dear Dave,
A big "Bravo" to you for being so fast to answer! I understood the answer and will add just a quick note. It's very disappointing that these electronic components are not that sturdier. I know, consumer has to change his equipment after a few years...
    Take care.

    Hi Dave,
I have two SONY DVD players with the same error message "No disc" (DVP-S360 and DVP-S560D).
What exactly do you mean by "weak pickup assy"? Is it a mecanical (some parts broke or need grease,...) or an electrical (low current, not enough coils in the electro-magnet,...) problem?
Thank's for your contribution to the reviewcentre.com community.
