Dave, you're the man.
I've a Sony HCD-S300 with the same problem. I'm really considering ordering the part and replacing it myself.
Could you please email me the service manual. I couldn't find it on line.
here is my email address. to_protect@hotmail.com
Thanks a million -

Her another sufferer with the C:13:00 error in the DAV-S300 from SONY. If replacing the laser pick-up will help, I consider doing it. More information will be greatly appreciated!

Sorry to say , That part has been discontinued , and is hard to find .
Try Andrews Electronics or Cumberland Electronics. Both have Websites.
But I think it is really time to upgrade your unit -

Well I gave up on the DVD player and got me a new one. I do have a SONY VCR SLV-975HF that seems to have a hard time releasing the tape. I also have a 32" Sony TV that is starting to act up. If you can please help me with this I would really appreciate it. -

Hey Dave...did a google search and came up with this forum...Interesting; I thought it was the wife breaking our DVD Players. I've actually gone through 4 SONY DVD players who all have this same problem. Do you know why this happens? is there a common pattern with this? not enough power, too hot? i can't imagine that everyone who buys a SONY DVD Player goes through this.
I've only have these DVD players for a few months, a DVD Dream System, a 5 disc changer and then the most recent a general plain old DVD player - then all of a sudden, "NO DISC" reads. Can it be prevented? Can it be fixed? Does Sony offer some sort of recall? Thanks for your help...

No there is no recall that I know of . Let me ask you this, Is your dve player in a HOT envirment such as on top of a hot amp in a confined area,? if so it sounds like your cooking it.
these things get quit hot inside and the lendr is genuine plastic. In other words rubbish
Believe it or not i find that the no name brands last longer then sony. earlier Sonys where prety good ,in fact I still have my old s 560 and is still going stong I bought my son a cheap RCA
and it got cooked on top of an amp , I replace a couple of caps in the power supply and it is still going today after 5 years. The NEW blue ray is suppose to be problem free and long lasting , but time will tell. too pricey for my blood good luck -

I solved the problem after hours and hours looking for that mistake.
Open your Player and put out the drive. Under the drive you findd the little
board for the laser.
At the backside of this board are two little smd fuses (yellow) with 0,8 A.
Just bridge them with something. Close your player.
Put on your player now (in standby mode) and press title, clear, power on your remote control.
Now you´re in the configuration menu. Use the automatic adjustment menu to set laser to standard.
That´s it. Works for most fu***ng sony DVD players.
This help was for free. Please let me know if it worked for you.
Greetings Matthew
