Hair + Dye Question

Hey everyone-

I dyed my hair a Pear Black back just before the summer. it seemed to thicken the rest of my hair, yet now the whole back side of my head is Really dry/split ends/'Poofy'. i was wondering that if i re-dye my hair a pear black again, will this thicken the back side, and casue it to lay flatter/thicken to a point where it wont be as fluffed out as it is now?
