Hello!
Does any one have any experience of using silicone brake fluid in classic cars. Does anyone know how often you're supposed to change it? -

I have a '75 Plymouth Duster with 400,000+ miles that I drive daily. I changed to DOT5 over 20 years ago with no problems whatsoever due to fluid breakdown or contamination. I have probably added less than a pint over the years. Never changed it, only added fluid. During changeover from DOT3 to DOT5, I tore down the brake entire system: master cylinder and all wheel cylinders. Rebuilt the cylinders, washed all components and blew the lines out with denatured alcohol. Only brake maintenance other than replacing shoes was renewing 1 wheel cylinder because at changeover this wheel cylider was pitted so I honed it out but there was still some residual pitting. 10 years later the pitting eventually wore the rubber cups to where they started leaking. I tore the cylinder down, replaced the cups and even resused the old fluid. That was 10 years ago and no problems since. That's how good DOT5 brake fluid is.
