    Hi,

Usually I have always bought Sony for its brand. However, I am confused this time round.

I am looking to buy a digital camcorder that will server me as a digital camera as well. I am looking for following features.

1). Ability to transfer the digital video to old VHS tapes as well.
2). Good quality video and still pictures.
3). Still pictures will eventually be printed (old style) and so still pictures have to be usual camera like quality (like Canon EOS 500, etc).

Any advise will be much appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

    1. You need camcorder with analog inputs, it will let you to connect VHS VCR and transfer movies to computer.
    2. good video is 3CCD. Most inexpensive are Panasonic NV-GS180, for about 450$.
    3. SLR film cameras are giving better quality and resolution than digital, however even entry level DSLR like Nikon D50 or Canon EOS350D are giving very nice pictures. Video camera can't provide acceptable still puctures. Still function is used only for snaps and not for high quality printing.

In the summary, your demands requre two cameras, one is video camcorder and the second in DSLR. There is no good combination of the two in one camera.
