Does anyone have any info on the LG DR4912 DVD recorder? Its a multi-format (+/-) recorder that plays all but DiVX, records all but CD and has just about every in / out connector you could wish for and is selling in the UK for ~£200 (~$360). LG's own (UK) website has virtually NO info on this model. I can find a full user manual on another site but can't find a single review (user or professional). It looks too good not to buy but why can't I find any info? Can anyone help?

Hi... bought this model 5 days ago and it is superb. Looks great, spec is good and records and plays in all formats (funcionality of discs varies from format to format).

I was also disapponted at LG's website for this product but saw it "in the flesh" at Richer Sounds and bought on the basis I had an LG player before and was VERY happy at quality.

I will be out of country for next few days but if you want I can PDF the manual and send it to you if you like.

I would recommend it though, for price & spec alone. Smile

Thanks Surfsnake. I've already got a pdf of the manual - found it at www.dvdplusrw.org/video/manuals. Which surprises me that I can get this on the web but no info from LG at all! I've not bought yet but pleased to hear you are delighted with your purchase. I've a few Qs tho:
Is picture & sound quality good?
Don't think it has RGB output - can you confirm?
Did Richer Sounds deliver it with their poromised "Region free" hack?
I'm waiting for Unbeatable.co.uk to get stock - they have an ETA of ~2 weeks from LG (good price but no Region free hack offered!)

My model *has* RGB output und there's a RGB/Composite switch on the rear. However, the one I have is called "DR4912 V", I don't know what difference the "V" may denote.

There's not much to "hack": just open the tray, press "0" seven times, then OK - and it's region free.

    Thanks PTK.

Its actually RGB IN that's missing! LG have admitted that this model is based on the same "motherboard" as the 4810 which also had no RGB IN but they hinted that they will rectify on future models.

Thanks for the "hack". My 4912 is currently on order from Unbeatable and expected in this week(missed the first batch).

Where did you get the model with the "V" suffix?

I got it in Switzerland (Migros shop) for 260 Swiss Franc (ca. £120). And I'm very happy with this DR4912V Smile Not only is it cheap and the specs are great - picture and sound quality are also really good. The only thing I don't quite like is that the colours seem to be a bit too saturated sometimes, but this is still certainly better than the stale, washed-out colours of my Thomson player.

The link on DVDPLUSRW is broken, the full URL for the LG DR4912 manual is here:

People interested in this model may wish to note that the John Lewis Partnership is selling it for £149 with 2 years warranty!

Hello, this is my first post. My LG DR4912 was purchased a couple of weeks ago from a local retailer for £149 and its been great except that the aspect ratio kept defaulting to 4:3 even though its set at 16:9 on the recorder and TV.

About one hour ago it totally stopped recognising any DVD regardless of format and whether blank or pre-recorded. When a DVD is placed inside it spins and checks for about 30 seconds, then claims the format is unknown and ejects the disk. Any ideas what could be causing this? I've tried with more than a dozen disks now of various types with no luck and run through the trouble shooting guide to no avail. I was planning on calling the shop tomorrow, but thought somebody here might be able to suggest something first.

    Thanks

    Ashley

Does anyone know if this recorder has any limitations recording "copyrighted" material.

I have seen a number of other players that have problems recording from VCR and mistake things for copyrighted.

I want to use this to archive stuff from old Video tapes, home videos and from Sky Plus.

Does it allow you to record from one tape, pause, and then continue from another tape until the DVD is full?

Notification of any other practical issues would be appreciated.

    Thanks
