I've got a corsa 1.0l 1998 3 cyl.
I've just cleaned the throttle housing out and now it keeps reving as if someone is constantly pressing and releasing the accelerator pedal.
when i unplug the tps, the idle settles down to normal. there's also a misfire.
I would be greatful for any ideas.. -

Hi, can't belive you've had 155 views and yet no posts!! Well here's my stab in the dark...sounds as though your engine idle sensor has gone or needs reset..only way to tell is by putting it on an engine diagnostic machine and running it. This costs but should only be around £30 if you phone round your independant dealers to find someone who has one for your model.
Hope you get it sorted, it will be torture in winter and it might stall at traffic lights when cold etc, and it will only get worse, my old car did too when I cleaned it...live it to be grubby!!

This is a common problem with the 1.0 engine according to my friend who works for Vauxhall. It's apparently caused by the engine wearing and causing a vibration (not detectable by us above the general engine vibration) that upsets the idle sensor reading. The only way to cure it is a new crankshaft!! It's a problem that has been caused by the engine being designed to only do 40-50k, thus some wear out rather quickly. When it does happen, Vauxhall put thicker oil in their courtousy cars (15W40 instead of 10W40) and this limits the problem. Hope that helps! -

I know it a bit late in the day to still be on this subject but here's an update. Since this problem arose, I have found that taking electronic idle control valve off and turning it round so the plunger isn't touching the throttle lever, and leaving it plugged in, the problem seems to have disappeared. Obviously this is not the best method of dealing with such a problem and I would like a more stable solution than having an idle control valve held on with cable ties. so if anyone has anymore ideas, I would be very greatful for them. And a big thank you to all the people who have found the time to post thier ideas. -

Hi there, i bought a corsa for a dealer for £1300. i drove it home fine without it overheating or any other problems. after the journey the oil changed a milky yellow colour which apparently indicated a blown head gasket or cracked head. I had the oil changed wich revealed a lot of water in the oil which confimed a blown head gasket. the car also smokes quite a lot and reaches a high temperature when on idle very quicly. does anyone know if this is more likely to be a gasket or a cracked head?
also,now when i drive the car another problem is present, when i put it into reverse it grinds the gears, and sometimes will not go into gear at all, then choosing reverse it will allow me to put it into another gear. does anyone know if this is a problem with the gearbox or the clutch?
im really stuck and need help badly, thanks everyone -

Hello.
I am new to this but need help with my Corsa Design. The problem I have is it keeps blowing bulbs all the time. The brake light bulbs are getting so hot they are melting the light cluster which I think is an MOT failure.
I have had the altinator changed as Vauxhall told me they thought this was down to over powering but the car is still blowing bulbs and it's usually the headlight ones (the most expensive).
Has anyone else experienced this? Or know how to stop it?
As I am new to this please send any response to;
sair_stowe@hotmail.com
Kind regards,

Has anyone else had Timing Chain problems with their 2002 1L Corsa life? My mechanic said to take it back to dealer as it's had regular services and only done 40,000miles. (I owned it from new) I know other models have been recalled but Inchcape are saying it's not that year! So i'd have to pay for the lot. Just want to see if any other people are having problems
