Hi,
I have had acne since I was a teen. I was an easy target for sales persons selling all kinds of skin care products. I have tried many different things, some of them pretty pricey too.
In the end, I find that OTC acne creams can be pretty effective in treating acne. Patience is required as it may take 5 - 7 days before seeing any results.
Acne creams can be very drying. A good moisturizer and night cream should be part of your daily skin care routine.
Acne treatment is important, acne control is equally important. With good habits, changes in lifestyle and a good skin care routine, the skin condition will gradually improve. This will reduce the frequency of outbreaks.
With regards to laser treatments, I too have heard that laser treatments can be used to treat a number of skin problems. However, if you are really interested, this would be best discussed with a doctor.
All the best to you! -

Hi
I found that using medicated washes over dried my skin and made the acne worse.
I agree with the post by andy skinner, water works best.
I am now using a hypoallergenic dermatological cloth to cleanse my face with just water. It works great on clogged pores and clears them before I get an acne breakout. -

i am 19 now. i used to have VERY healthy skin, but dunno why recently my skin has broken. lots of spots all of a sudden. i've been seeing my GP and she gave me Zineryt. after using it, the spots become redder and bigger. so i dont know whether i should keep using it. and another thing i want to share here is that i've been very sad becos of the fact that i am not pretty anymore now. i used to be ok pretty. both my mum and my boyfriend know that i am quite concerned about my prettiness all the time. infac my mum has been very supportive recently, however, when i went out with my boyfriend today, he laughed at me. he even said something like that he would find someone else if my skin doesnt get better soon. i know he was only joking, but what he has said really hurt me.
P.S. sorry if my english is not too good. -

I have had acne since I was 13 and I am now 24, it has recently got worse so I went to my doctor who gave me some antibiotics which I dont think has helped but also I changed my contraceptive pill to 'Dianette' and I do think that has helped I also only wash my face with water and no soap, my spots do seem to be clearing up but now I have the problem of scarring which is probably worse than actually getting spots and I dont know how to solve this problem, has anyone got any advice?? thanx x -

Using too many products on your skin can worsen your problem rather than help it because they are designed to rob your skin of its natural ability to cleanse itself, so that you have to keep buying the product-this is how pharmaceuticals make their money!
Your best bet is to use all natural products from somewhere like Lush. Also going to a spa and sweating out all the toxins in your skin should really help to bring it back to its natural state.
Waterfall Spa in Leeds has a very nice steam room and sauna, plus a hydrotherapy pool to wash away all those nasty toxins.
They also do a number of facials which use naturally good ingredients for the skin like rose and cucumber. Their unusual Rose, Raspberry and Cocoa Facial is best for detoxifying.
And for those that like to D.I.Y:
Dab a small amount of toothpaste (paste, not gel) on pimples before bed; this helps dry out the pimples.
Mix equal amounts of lemon juice and rose water, apply to face with a cotton ball, and allow to sit for 30 minutes before rinsing. 15-20 days of this application helps cure pimples and also helps to remove blemishes and scars.
Apply fresh lemon juice on the affected area overnight. Wash off with warm water next morning.
For acne that hasn't seemed to respond to anything, steep 2-3 tsp. dried basil leaves in 1 cup boiling water for 10-20 minutes, cool, and apply to affected area with a cotton ball.
Hope that helps!x

The problem I have found with a lot of acne products is that they are very harsh on the skin. Ingredients such as glycolic acid, benzoyl peroxide, retin-A and salicylic acid can be effective for a spot treatment, but after a few days of use, you find that your skin gets worse. The stronger the product, the more drying. When the skin gets too dry, it produces more oil to lubricate and protect the skin. So, you use more of the product to try to control the oilyness....
The skin's natural oils help to protect against bacteria, too much oil will clog the pores causing acne. Somehow we just seem to get stuck in a never ending cycle.
A couple things I have found that help to break the cycle include: using a clean wash cloth to wash the face - this helps to gently exfoliate the skin and helps to keep it clean. Changing wash cloths after each use prevents the spread of bacteria; cleanse the face with either Cetaphil gentle cleansing bar (not the acne bar or the lotion, they don't work as well) or Neutrogena sensitve skin bar. Deodorant soaps are too harsh, again the excess oil cycle, and many others are too gentle and won't clean the skin well; I use jojoba oil. Just a drop or two and spread it over my skin after cleansing while it's still wet. The oil (it isn't really an oil -another story), sort of tricks the skin into thinking it has enough oil, and helps it not to produce more. Jojoba oil is very similar to our natural body oils and doesn't clog the pores; and I use a zinc-sulfur based product called Acne-ltd to treat the spots and pimples. It helps to control the oil and red-tones (I think that's from the zinc) and the sulfur is a natural anti-biotic and helps reduce pimple breakouts.
And it sounds crazy, but I drink lots of water. At least five 20 ounce bottles a day. Water helps to flush out toxins from the body and works to balance out all the sweets, and other acne causing foods.
well, the problem i also faced a lot for my acne for this i used many products I have also found with a lot of acne products are very harsh on the skin they rash out the part of the skin were i used it then I started using the herbal remedies which are free from all side effect ,i also advice you to try it atleast once. You can easily get the information for this from any herbal site. I hope it will help you
bcoz it help's me so much.
