Water Filters - external. I have been astounded to discover that the water filter that I have to replace on my new Samsung side-by-side fridge freezer can cost anything from £27+ to £70 for exactly the same model. Considering that you have to replace every six months ... well, it wasn't in the small print when we bought the thing! Anyhoo, I have discovered 'Pozzani' who supply universal filters which fit my hoses perfectly and the cost of the filter ... £15. Postage was only 95p and they advised me that they would hold my details on file and send a reminder card when the six months deadline comes around again ... service like this isn't available too often. Hope this information gets to as many people as possible ... pass it on, as it's time the big companies realise that folks have a choice these days. Well done, Pozzani

    Hi there,

The filter does not have to be replaced for the fridge freezer to continue working as it normally would. The water filters can last longer than 6 months dependant on your water area i.e hard or soft. You can reset the filter warning lights on all Samsung models by pressing and holding in the childlock and ice type buttons together for a few seconds.

I must admit the universal filters sometimes are not as good as the recommended filters.

If you are ever requiring a filter for your Samsung fridge freezer I would suggest a company called Digicare.

I know this is an old thread, but we had a customer ask us about this today after seeing it online on this website.

To clear matters I work at Pozzani, but from a technical perspective point 2 is incorrect.

Firstly refrigerator filters do not remove limescale, so water hardness is irrelevant. Limescale truthfully is only a major problem when water is heated, and whilst cold pipework will scale up eventually, the use of plastic tubing in these fridges means this will take many more years than the fridge is ever likely to be in service. Its a huge misconception that this has anything to do with hardness.....

Fridge filters need replacing at six monthly intervals regardless of consumption levels -mainly because- this is the current industry guidelines for granular activated carbon cartridges. Basically activated carbon starts to break down as soon as it gets wet, and as time progresses it becomes possible for filters to harbor bacteria. Due to this virtually every UK company using regular carbon filters suggest replacement at six monthly intervals, which we'd be the first to admit is a trade off between a decent margin of safety and still keeping the product economical - although that line has to be drawn somewhere. It's not something only affecting compatibles - to be honest even the manufacturers originals are only intended to be used for six months - pretty much for the same reason.

The filters are simply taste/odor and sediment filters in essence. Taste/Odour is obviously important from a drinking perspective (your water wants to taste good!), with fridge filters typically removing chlorine, dissolved organics etc. The sediment issue is more important because many US Fridges use small solenoid valves to flick between ice/drinking water feeds and these can get clogged up with bits of grit and dirt over time causing them to stick. Therefore proper maintenance of such a filter is generally advised.

It's important to note that the technology in these fridge filters isn't that new or cutting-edge - it's something companies like ourselves have worked with for 20 years or more. The fridge industry has turned to existing technologies really - it's not a case of the water filter industry trying to catch them up! As such a compatible such as ours is likely to offer virtually identical performance.
