    Bodrum's most striking feature is the medieval castle which stands over the entrance to Bodrum bay, a meeting point for both the Aegean and Mediterranean Seas. The views and sunsets are absolutely stunning. As is the choice of attractions and things to do. As well as sun worshipping there are lots of charming shops, bars and historical attractions you can visit while you take in the breathtaking surroundings such as the impressive waterfront, dotted with palm trees and its festoon of yachts in the marina. Just outside Bodrum's main centre you can swim in tranquil seas and explore the many amazing rock formations which make up the coastline. This interesting coast holds delights too for underwater divers and lovers of marine life.

    Bodrum Castle and Museum

    The central harbour is surrounded by shops, cafes, bars and hotels but these are dwarfed by the impressive 15th Century castle. The Castle of St Peter was built by The Knights of Rhodes in 1402 but has been reinforced by the Italians, English, Germans and French, who all added towers. It was taken over by the Turks finally in 1523 and now houses a must see exhibit, its underwater museum.

    Amphitheater

    This 13,000 seater arena is pre Roman although developed and used by the Romans. There are rock tombs nearby and above providing a spectacular setting as well as a breathtaking selection of views across the city.

    Myndus Gate

    This western city gate was built by Mausolus in 364 BC. It has been restored in recent years as are other surviving parts of the grand city wall. This impressive entrance is composed of four towers. It stood firm against Alexander the Great.

    Ottoman Tower

    This great tower was built 1794 as a lookout and to protect Ottoman naval ships from pirate raids. The tower has undergone restoration during which remains of Roman baths were found.

    The Mausoleum

    The Mausoleum of Halikarnassus was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Its site is on open air museum visited for the accomplishments of the ancients. Its monumental statuary is in the British Museum but some artifacts and replicas of its friezes can be seen on the site.

    Bodrum Airport is 25 km away. Minibus services and Intercity Coach and Bus services leave daily from the bus station. Istanbul is 14 hours away. A 90-day tourist visa costs £10 and is obtainable on arrival in Turkey. Rest assured you will find accommodation to suit your needs in Bodrum.
