Good Points: Size Processing power Configurable from Dell
Bad Points: Size Pricing
General comments: We are currently installing the Dell GX280 small form factor (SFF) PC into a couple of our clients retail sites. This particular PC is ideal for under-counter fixing with custom brackets (GX260 SFF brackets) to ensure the security of your equipment. The PC itself is less than 12" x 12" x 6" deep. As usual with Dell it is advertised at a very low price, but once you have added the basic configuration that you require, and the delivery charge that Dell add but do not advertise wholeheartedly, the PC will set you back around 700 to 800 pounds for a 1.8mhz, 80Gb HD, DVD/RW, 17" TFT monitor, 512Mb RAM, and Windows XP operating system. This price can be drastically reduced if you shop around, as Dell are not the cheapest suppliers of their own goods.
The GX280 SFF is however restricted due to its size, and add on boards are a problem, and upgrades are expensive. But, overall this PC, along with the SX260 SFF have a unique place in the hardware market, and they are very robust.
One word of warning is that the power supply connection needs to be handled carefully or else it gets loose and can cause problems.
