Good Points: Cheap Rock solid Most parts interchangable with Colt and clones
Bad Points: Bad sights Heavy trigger No barrel lead Butt Ugly Rough feeding ramp Ejects the cases at radom directions
General comments: I have had my Norinco Commander clone for a few years now and I am very impressed. At first the gun looked like junk with lots of machine marks and some line are not even machined straight. The trigger broke at a lawyer proof 8lbs and the sight were tiny (just like to old Colts). The barrel has almost no lead so bullet such as those 255gr cast would not chmber.
It grouped at less than 3inches from 25meter (remember it is a commander and not a Govt Mod). The metal seems ultra strong too (the gunsmith who worked on my gun told me that).
For a low budget gun, all you need to do if to put a set of better sights on and get a trigger job done.
I have installed a recoil buffer, Sprinco spring guide, extended safety, 22lbs recoil spring, extended grip safety, polished the feed ramp and sear, flared the ejection port, did some trigger guard undercut (I did most of these my self) and reshaped the ejector. Now it is a real track driver. I have put over 10000rd and 2000 45SUPER (this stuff operates at 30000CUP instead on 18000 of that of the 45ACP) rounds through and it still shoot as good as before.
If you just want a cheap but powerful gun for self defense, The Norinco might just be the piece for you.
