Good Points: Classic style, short and light, adequate caliber
Bad Points: Out of production as of 2007, collectors are pushing up prices.
General comments: The Winchester 94 was the last in the line of Winchester lever rifles from the 19th century. It has survived by being the perfect blend of reliability, accuracy and ease of carry, combined with an ideal cartridge for whitetail deer.
I have two of these fine rifles from the 1970's and they are a joy to shoot. The .30-30 round is not punishing, and the open sights are adequate for distances up to 125 yards.
No collection of classic firearms is complete with one of these guns. Later ones can still be found at "shooter" prices. History, reliability, utility - the Win. 94 has it all.

Mine was an early top eject model. Since I always favored carbine type rifles, it was love at first sight. Using 150 grain bullets, I found my 94 to be very accurate at shorter ranges, like in woodlands. My eyes were sharper then so the open sights were no problem. Now, I would have a peep sight installed.
A well placed bullet from a 30/30 at reasonable ranges is still a good killer. Am anxious to try the new polymer tipped bullets if and when I get a new rifle.

Wonderful deer hunting rifle. It was my first deer hunting rifle. The kick was pretty bad though.
