Good Points: Detailed without being dry...quite witty actually.
Bad Points: Colour would be great...but then it would have been too expensive.
General comments: David Pogue's iMovie 3 and iDVD is clear in it's intent to make you more proficient in these applications and it succeeds admirably because it is written for both the layman and the expert. If you wish to dig deeper you are invited to do so however the author does a great job of anticipating the various levels of competency and interest that various readers possess and therefore saves you time either wading through technical stuff or the beginner level. It is funny without a hint of patronisation and it's style encourages the reader to explore further. It unlocked many features of these apps that I thought I knew quite well and guided me effortlessly through my first and successful idvd movie. Learning by your mistakes can be costly when working with DV and I recommend buying this book and avoiding future anguish.
